Winds of Joy - Geelong - AM

Making Waves Foundation offer a Winds of Joy Program which is designed to give children with disability and disadvantaged children and youth the opportunity to go sailing. Through our crew, MWF are able to provide positive role models, demonstrating that people with a disability do not have to be confined by it and creating optimism. This program is run entirely by volunteers.

Group bookings of minimum 7 maximum 13 with at least 5 with disability/special needs and a maximum of 3 wheelchairs including can be booked by school or community groups.

If you are one of our authorised crew members and would like to crew, please follow the steps as per above and add your name to the crew list. All crew should register their intention at least 2 weeks prior to their intended sail and be at the boat 1 hour prior to the sail time listed for boat call.

Yakka Immersion Program

In conjunction with CareerLinks, we are hosting 10 students plus 3 carers/teachers from Callaghan Waratah Campus for a Winds of Joy sail.

These indigenous students are coming to NCYC and Midcoast boatyard to find out about career options in the marina, boating and sailing industries.

Boat call: 12noon for 12.30pm departure

Return to dock: 2.30pm

Newcastle - Yakka Immersion Day (one off)

This special one off Winds of Joy sail is for Indigneous Youth and their teachers from Callaghan Campus.

Run in conjunction with CareerLinks this group will tour the NCYC and MidCoast Boatyard, enjoy lunch and then join Joy for an afternoon sail.  The aim of this day is to provide some insight into what career options are available in the boating and marina industry.

Wright of Passage - Sydney

Making Waves Foundation Wright of Passage program is for young people between the ages of 15 to 18 who are looking for learning options outside of the classroom.

Participants work with our volunteer mentors in a stable workshop environment to construct sailing dinghies, kayaks, and similar projects. Through this process they build confidence, consistency and develop the positive attitudes and skills needed for their journey through education, training, and employment.

The program runs on Wednesdays and Thursdays across the school terms. Alternate Thursdays involve sailing training out on the harbour.
